Dates TBD
Rehearsals
Attendance is critical. Please make sure your son or daughter attends
regularly they will miss out on information that will help them to be
successful. If they have to miss a day they can always show up on another
instrument day to make it up. I do take attendance for band and you may drop
me phone call or email to let me know they will be absent.
The initial
schedule is as follows:
Monday - Flutes
and Oboe
Tuesday
- clarinets and saxophones
Wednesday -
Percussion
Friday - trumpet, trombone,
baritone/euphonium, french horn
This schedule will change to 2 - 3 times per week,
depending on the size of the percussion section
Practicing
Students need to practice at least 10 minutes 6 out of 7 days a
week. There are muscles in the abdomen and face that are being used
intensely for the first time and practicing more frequently for at least 10
minutes is the most beneficial for your son or daughter.
Practice Hints
-
Have a routine
-
Set a aside space
that has little distraction or interruption
-
Use a timer, if time
is limited (you will be amazed at what can get accomplished in just 10
minutes, of course if you have more time and are not tired, keep going)
-
Provide positive
feedback (Body position/posture is a great thing to point out)
-
Encourage them to perform for
you or to make up a song, if they're shy about performing let them
perform for the family pet. I know my german shepherd likes to howl along
with my flute playing.

their day.
Assignments
Students will be assigned numbers out of their book to work on and to focus
their practice. They will
be expected to practice at home. The playing assignments are
progressive and will become harder as they increase in skill.
Assessment is ongoing so that I can assist with problems or
challenges they're experiencing early on.
Learning to play an instrument is like a roller coaster there are hills to
climb slowly and persistently, excitement and exhilaration with new skills
and of course parts that are calm and comfortable. The only way
to experience the roller coaster is to consistently practice new skills and
reinforce and review the learned ones at home. A student will struggle
if they are not encouraged to practice at home. Please help your son or
daughter find a method to keep it regular and consistent.
Any questions or concerns please call or email me. 425-844-4718 or

I’m looking forward to a terrific band year!
